We received 2 advanced copies of the "Delivering Happiness" book by Tony Hsieh for free since we blog regularly. Thanks to everyone at Zappos! We got to check the book out early in exchange of an honest review the week of the release, and today the hardcover and audiobook versions were both released. We will also announce our giveaway of one of the advanced reading paper backs & more soon.
When opening the book and reading "There's a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." - Morpheus, The Matrix, in the preface I knew I was in for a good read. Tony and a friend started the company Link Exchange which was purchased by Microsoft for $250 million in 1998. Then as CEO, Zappos.com (and sister site 6PM.com) was purchased by Amazon for 1.2 Billion in 2009. You might want to check this book out if your starting your own business.
Its an fast easy read, especially with the stories of Tony's early entrepreneurship with worms and making buttons via mail order. Eventually "working" at Lucasfilm playing Indiana Jones video games in grade school. I was surprised to hear how Tony likes to party, skipped school and mentioned the raving community. I'm half Japanese, so it was also interesting and humorous learning Tony's perspective of strict (Taiwanese) Asian family schooling growing up. I hated Kumon, sorry mom! I'm not finished with the book completely but i'd give it a 9.5 out of 10.
